The HES is an advanced modular hybrid system offering
a reliable and economic solution for decentralised power supply
in rural areas. It is based on a standard 20' container with photovoltaic
generator on top and a battery bank, control system and inverter
inside to provide continuous 50/60 cycle AC power. For back-up
purposes a small diesel genset may be integrated into the system.
The solar generator is designed to cover a major portion of the
mean daily energy demand. Only during peak load periods or when
the demand exceeds the solar energy production, the diesel genset
works as an energy back-up in order to support the battery. The
modular design allows a later adaption to an increasing demand.
Depending on the local conditions it may be assisted by a wind
generator, an additional diesel genset or a micro-hydro power station.
The HES combines the advantages of both PV and diesel systems:
It provides a continuous AC power supply which is able to cover
high peak load demand for longer periods in line with high reliability
and has reduced fuel and maintenance costs. In addition, standard
AC appliances can be used.
